Dad Cleared In Toddler’s Death, Mother Guilty In Unusual Pair Of Verdicts

STOCKTON – A man accused of beating his 2-year-old son to death in Stockton was found not guilty of all counts, including child abuse resulting in death, on Wednesday.

STOCKTON – A man accused of beating his 2-year-old son to death in Stockton was found not guilty of all counts, including child abuse resulting in death, on Wednesday.

But a separate jury found the child’s mother guilty of child endangerment with special circumstances of death because she failed to get help for her dying child.

Jamela Evans told investigators her boyfriend, Tushambi Evans Sr., was upset that their toddler wouldn’t eat, so the father force-fed him food and vomit at her home in the 500 block of West Sixth Street.

She said the situation escalated to him dropping Tushambi Evans Jr. – headfirst – from a 5-foot height and then taking him to the bathtub, where the father continued force-feeding and delivering blows to the child’s head.
